Northern Ireland Telecommunications Industry: The Benefits of Having a Locally Based Partner

Earlier this month, we found ourselves on stage at the Business Eye awards, being presented with the ‘Family Business of the Year’ Award. At the time, we celebrated like we would with any other achievement. However, it is only now we have finished the celebrations, we have taken a step back and realised how monumental it is to be awarded a title like this in the Northern Ireland telecommunications industry.

In recent years, the majority of the businesses in the telecoms industry have been bought over by larger corporations, often based overseas, and as a result, are now corporately managed. However, we are proud to say we are one of the few family-owned and managed businesses in the Northern Ireland telecommunications industry by founder and Managing Director, Britt Megahey, with other family members involved in the management of the business. As a result, we pride ourselves on offering a personal and exceptionally high level of customer service to all our valued customers. The staff at Barclays build relationships with customers that goes further than just a purchase. This has not gone unnoticed, as we have been recognised as leaders in the communications industry, winning multiple awards for our dedication to customer service. Additionally, this is continually echoed by customer feedback with McGovern Estate Agents highlighting: “A major selling point was Barclay’s dedicated customer support.  The team go above and beyond to ensure we are completely satisfied with our products and services.”

Our customers are at the forefront of everything we do, our goal is to boost businesses bottom line with our systems and we are continually looking for ways to improve the products and services we offer to them. Our recent investment announcement showcases our dedication to this. We want to ensure we offer customers a full communications package with unbeatable aftersales support and training. That is why we have invested heavily in our landline department, bringing in specialist engineers to onboard customers seamlessly. Our product ranges include business mobiles, landlines and IT Services. We also offer a workforce management solution through our sister company WorkPal. This means customers can come to us with a communications problem and we have the solution, all under one roof.

Currently, in Northern Ireland, there are 1,970 businesses that are not locally owned, but as the fastest-growing, indigenous business in Northern Ireland’s telecommunications industry, we are proud to be a locally and family-owned business, which is now a rarity and a thing of the past in our industry. Britt, the County Antrim based businessman, is an advocate for investing in our local economy, stating: “Local businesses are the backbone of our economy”. This was recently exhibited in the ‘Barclay Backing Business Grant’, where Barclay Communications launched the £250,000 scheme aimed at supporting NI businesses that had suffered a downturn as a result of the pandemic. Mr Megahey would urge you to spend locally as the Northern Ireland economy continues to prosper and grow.
