RIM set to unveil its iPhone 4 killer

Will the slider 9800 do better than the BlackBerry Storm in taking on the mighty iPhone?

iPhone use surges 85pc in IrelandO2’s iPhone 4 plans veer from €40 up to €100 a month Apple’s popular smartphone is set to be the target of yet another ‘iPhone killer’, this time from Canada’s Research in Motion’s forthcoming slider 9800 handset.

RIM’s stock jumped earlier today on the news that a joint BlackBerry and AT&T press conference will be held in New York on Tuesday morning.

AT&T is expected to get exclusive rights to the new BlackBerry handset and the operator is expected to promote the product very aggressively.

The device will appear in Canada and Western Europe later this year.

Details leaked in recent months point to the slider 9800 as featuring a full QWERTY keyboard and running on BlackBerry OS 6.0. The device will also come with a touch sensitive optical trackpad, a 5-megapixel camera, 3G, WLAN, A-GPS, 4GB on-board memory, 16Mb microSD memory and Bluetooth.
