There was much anticipation in the lead up to Apple’s latest launch event in Cupertino, California on Monday. At the event, CEO Tim Cook unveiled the new iPhone SE, a smaller iPad Pro and Apple Watch updates.
iPhone SE Features:
The iPhone SE was the headline act at the event. Although the chassis looks much like the 5s, Apple are promoting it as the most powerful 4-inch phone ever made. It features a 64 bit A9 chip that offers the same processing power as the iPhone 6S which should be welcomed by those iPhone users who prefer a smaller handset but with the processing power of a 6S.
The latest iPhone also includes a 12MP camera with 4K video capability. Live photos can also be captured, a feature that transforms a succession of photographs into a slideshow with audio. The front-facing camera also has flash capabilities.
This latest device will also have similar security settings as its predecessors including a Touch ID, finger print recognition to unlock the phone. An NFC chip also enables Apple Pay, the iPhone SE’s contactless payment system.
The phone is available in the usual colours; space grey, gold, silver and rose gold.
Pricing & Availability.
Many iPhone fans will be happy to hear that the SE will cost less than previous iPhones. Pricing for the 16GB model starts from £359. The 64GB model will start from £439. Preorders in the UK start Thursday, March 24th 2016. EE, Vodafone and O2 have confirmed that they will be stocking the new device.
The new iPhone SE has gained positive reaction from the industry. In an interview with Mobile News, uSwitch telecoms expert, Ernest Doku claims the iPhone’s pricing will make it popular. He said, “Taking the iconic design of the 5s and supercharging it with the innards of the 6s, its best phone yet, and for a vastly lower price, should strike fear in the hearts of brands already competing in the mid-range mobile market. Apple has priced the SE cleverly at the sweet spot for instant sales, meaning there is no reason why this 4 inch handset shouldn’t fly off the shelves from the word go.”
